Words are spoken
And never forgotten
Words remind me
I am bruised

Conflict is existent
And never amends
Conflict reminds me
I am battered

Pain is resonating
And never relieved
Pain reminds me
I am broken

Blind Man

One morning I met a blind man
walking down the street

He was using a cane to find his way

He asked if I needed some change
He asked if I was all right

One morning I was walking down the street
I thought I knew the way

One morning I met blind man
A blind man with sight.

It’s been awhile…

Whoa! Hey there! It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything.

Don’t fret, I’ve been busy on various projects but just dropping a quick note to say that I’m working a mini-piece and should have something new up in a couple of weeks.  I’ve written the poem and now I need to photograph the piece.

So check back in couple of weeks!

Bosnia III

Few more from the farm.

Making haystacks, roasting lamb and some very ornery sheep. They (the sheep) did not appreciate my attempts to photograph them. From a distance, I might add.

A few more pictures of the mountain farm in Bosnia.

This little community consists of about 10 or so families.  They are all self-sufficient by living off the foods they grow and animals they raise.  Each family makes their own bread, cheese and brandy and shares with the other families in the community. They rarely head down the mountain into the town for supplies.

When I arrived at this farm, I passed the car below stuck on the curve. The car had broken down down on the way up the mountain a few days prior to my arrival.  On my last day on the farm, members of the community worked together to get the car running and back up to the owner’s farm.

So, I thought I’d mix things up a bit and post some different photographs this week.  I was going to start posting some of my old black and white photography until my scanner decided to be difficult.  Since Mr. Scanner wants to challenge me, I’ll post some digital photographs in the meantime.

This next series of photograghs were taken on a mountain farm in Bosnia.  Despite all the wars in recent years, Bosnia remains a very beautiful country. It’s geography and climate reminds me of British Columbia.  The landscapes are quite stunning.

Thank You!

I just wanted to take a quick moment to thank all those who have visited.  It’s always rewarding to hear how your art affects those who have participated in one’s little artistic ventures.  It’s nice to know that someone out there in this great electronic universe sees and understands what you’re trying to say.

And a big thank you to my friend Heatherly Stephens for coming out to Hollywood and hiking through Runyon Canyon park and letting me takes pictures of her.  Heatherly is a talented artist herself and I appreciate the time she took to help me out. Check out her bio below.

Again, thanks to all of you for visiting and don’t forget to support the independent artists in and around your neighborhoods: both the land based neighborhood and this new and amazing interwebz neighborhood.

Heatherly Stephens Bio:

Heatherly loves the arts. Through her love of art she has had amazing opportunities. She’s been an award winning actor, having been blessed with roles like The Witch from Into The Woods and Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing at the tip of the iceberg. Heatherly is also an NAACP award-nominated sound designer as well as a DJ, Head Shot/Nature photographer and Theatre Professor.

Well, here they are. Some of the outtakes from Spirals and Sight.  These are a few of the images I liked but for whatever reason I just felt they didn’t fit properly within the piece.

Keep checking back.  I’ll be posting more in the coming days!

And so we have reached the end of our little journey.  I wasn’t sure how I was going to bring this journey to a close and I admit that I’ve sat here for the past week or so waffling on how would be the best way to sum up our journey.

So, I’ll begin with a little background on my motivation behind this piece.

I think this is a road that many of us will or already have travelled. It is my journey as I’ve spiraled through the cycles of depression.  How it sneaks up on you when you least expect it and pulls you down into the spiral.  How it holds you in place and won’t let go. How, even though you feel trapped and isolated and scared there is still beauty in the world around you. How the knowledge of beauty is what gets you through the darkness that grips you.

It is a journey of hope. For as long as you can recognized the simple beauty of the flower growing in your neighbors yard there is hope that you will emerge from the darkness.

Even though this journey has come to an end check back because I’ve already started formulating future projects.  In the meantime I’ll also be posting more pictures from the  photoshoot for this piece… pictures that I really liked but didn’t fit in with the message I was presenting.
